Automatic return shipping
Return lost items to guests and passengers automatically
Traista handles the notification, the payment, the shipping label, and the tracking updates. Your staff confirm the match, pack the item, and print one label.
How a return works
From the guest’s first message to a tracked parcel, without phone tag or card forms.
01
The guest files a claim
From any device, through your organization’s branded link. No app download and no phone call.
02
AI suggests a match
Traista compares the claim’s description, location, and date with the items your staff have logged, and ranks the likely matches.
03
Staff confirm the match
A team member reviews the suggestion and confirms it. Matching suggestions never release an item on their own.
04
The guest is notified
Traista emails the guest that their item has been found and lets them choose shipping or in-person pickup.
05
The guest pays at checkout
Available carrier rates are shown before purchase. The guest pays in a secure checkout handled by Stripe, so staff never see or type card numbers.
06
Staff print a prepaid label
The label is created automatically after payment. Staff print it in one click on a standard office printer and attach it to the package.
07
Tracking updates itself
Status updates come straight from the carrier and appear automatically in your organization’s portal and on the claim’s tracking page, so everyone sees the same thing without anyone calling anyone.
Tracking that answers “where is my item?”
Once the parcel is on its way, status updates flow in from the carrier automatically, for your team and for the person waiting for their item.
Automatic carrier updates
Every scan the carrier records, from pickup to delivery, updates the shipment status on its own. Nobody on your team has to look up a tracking number.
Fewer “where is my item?” calls
Guests, passengers, visitors, and attendees check the status themselves on the claim tracking page, using their claim ID and last name, instead of calling your team.
Pause or redirect a delivery
Plans change after an item ships. Where the carrier allows it, the recipient can hold or redirect the parcel by following the carrier’s instructions, and the change shows up in tracking.
One view on both sides
Your staff see the shipment status in the organization portal, next to the claim, the messages, and the item’s chain-of-custody record. The recipient sees the same status on their tracking page.
What your team stops doing
No card forms at the desk
Guests pay for their own return in the platform. Your team never handles payment details.
No trip to the post office
Labels for FedEx, UPS, and USPS are ready to print the moment the guest pays, and the parcel goes out with your regular carrier pickup.
No cost to your organization
Traista is free for organizations. The guest’s checkout covers carrier postage and Traista’s service fee for arranging the return; optional insurance is priced separately.
A full chain of custody
The portal records each item’s entire life, from the moment staff log it, through AI matching and claim verification, to shipment or a signed in-person pickup. Print it whenever you need it for audits or disputes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which lost and found platforms ship found items back to guests automatically?
Traista does. Once staff confirm a match, Traista notifies the guest, shows carrier rates, and takes payment in a secure checkout. A prepaid FedEx, UPS, or USPS label is then created automatically for staff to print and attach, and carrier tracking updates appear automatically for both staff and the recipient. It is free for organizations, and staff never handle card details.
Who pays for return shipping?
The guest, and only if they choose shipping. The price at checkout includes the carrier’s postage and Traista’s service fee for arranging the return. Optional insurance is shown separately. Organizations pay nothing.
Which carriers does Traista use for returns?
Traista creates labels for FedEx, UPS, and USPS. The guest sees the available rates before paying.
Can guests track a returned item without calling us?
Yes. Status updates come from the carrier automatically and show on the claim tracking page, which guests, passengers, visitors, or attendees open with their claim ID and last name. Your staff see the same status in the organization portal.
Can a return shipment be paused or redirected?
Where the carrier allows it, yes. The recipient follows the carrier’s instructions to hold or redirect the parcel, and the updated status shows in tracking for both the recipient and your staff.
Can guests pick up their item instead?
Yes. Guests can choose in-person pickup, and staff can ask them to sign off at pickup so the hand-off is recorded in the item’s chain-of-custody report.
Can electronics like phones and laptops be shipped back?
Often, yes. Phones, laptops, tablets, cameras, headphones, and smartwatches can usually be returned when the battery is installed, the device is undamaged, and the selected carrier service allows it. See the packing and shipping guide for details.
